Wabi Iron & Steel Corp. has an opening for a Mechanical Utility Person. This is a full-time, permanent position, scheduled Monday to Thursday, 40 hours per week.
In this role, the successful candidate's main responsibilities will be to set-up machining operations and operate various machine shop and fabrication equipment, clean and paint finished products and process materials for fabrication, etc..
What you will be doing:
- Receives work instructions and material location from Foreman.
- Handles material, tools and equipment manually and/or by chain block or overhead crane.
- Refers to drawing, sketch or existing layout to determine tool requirements and work procedure.
- Set up jigs or fixtures required for the job.
- Levels and aligns material to be worked on and secures same on machine table by means of clamps, bolt, vise or other fixtures as required.
- Set up machine tools such as drills, reamers, taps, etc. Sharpens drill as require.
- Adjust feeds and speeds of machine according to tool size and material to be worked on.
- Starts machine and operates various controls to drill, ream, tap and bore.
- Positions, levels and secures zinc moulds in jig by adjusting set screws.
- Works from pre-located holes, marked lines and/or jigs which are assembled and adjusted by others.
- Drills or bores to specified dimensions.
- Uses necessary hand and power tools and performs assembling of sane pumps, air cylinders, guide rollers and wheels & axles.
- Places finished work on pallets, floor or conveys to other work areas as directed.
- Cleans and lubricates tools and equipment and returns tools and tool crib.
- Reports any defects in material, tools, equipment to Foreman.
- Maintains good housekeeping in work area and observes all safety and general rules.
- Sets up and operates hack saw, marks and cutes material as required.
- Sets up and operates drill press and drills holes in wheels, uses tapping tool and wrench to thread same.
- Checks tapped holes with pipe plug to assure sufficient and proper thread.
- Cleans and lubricates tools and equipment and returns tools to tool crib.
- Receives work assignments, cutting list, sketches, blueprints, tracings.
- Cleans material, sets up and secures tracks, lining up and squaring same with plate edge and/or existing layout; using tape and square.
- Marks straight and square lines, and/or duplicates parts from templates, ensuring minimum waste of material.
- Sets up and operates tracing machine using tracings to burn material to various shapes.
- Uses hand torch to burn to layout lines when necessary.
- Checks cut material using tape, templates and square; removes slag as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
