Position: Victim Support Worker
Catchment Area: Kirkland Lake and surrounding area
Full-Time Contract Position – 28 to 32 hours per week + on-call
Victim Services of Temiskaming & District provides immediate crisis response, intervention and prevention services which are responsive to the needs of individuals, families and communities affected by crime and tragic circumstance. Victim Services provides victims of any crime or tragedy with free, non-judgmental and confidential supportive services aimed at early intervention. We provide on-site or over the phone crisis intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To support the needs of victims and witnesses of crime and tragic circumstance and provide a full range of trauma-informed, victim-centered supportive services, including but not limited to, client intake, needs assessment, crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning and long term referrals to community agencies and to participate in stakeholder networks and public education.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High school diploma, with post-secondary education in social science field preferred, or equivalent experience with completion of relevant course work.
- Minimum two years of crisis intervention experience, such as victim services support,
- emotional support, safety planning, etc.
- Bilingualism would be an asset.
OTHER PREREQUISITES
- 24/7 coverage of services shared with other staff on a rotational schedule, including on call
- and back-up overage as required to meet operational needs;
- A valid Ontario’s driver’s license, insurance and a reliable vehicle is required to fulfill the
- requirements of this position.

- Successful completion of a detailed criminal background check and OPP Security Clearance.
- All responsibilities will be performed in keeping with the trauma-informed philosophical
- framework set out in the Mandate and Mission of Victim Services of Temiskaming & District.
- This position exposes the incumbent to possible vicarious trauma that results from
- empathetic engagement with recently traumatized clients.
