Language Acquisition Support Worker                                 

Location:                 Roland Michener Secondary School – Elementary

Vacancy Details:   1.0 FTE (32.5 hours per week) Permanent Position - until June 25, 2027

Responsibilities and Duties

• Support students in the early learning of American Sign Language (ASL) as their primary language.
• Provide classroom support to students based on their individual, social, emotional, behavioural, and physical needs.
• Support students to access the curriculum and meet their full potential in both integrated and high support settings.
• Facilitate students’ ASL language acquisition in various educational settings, including classrooms, nutrition breaks, recess, field trips, assemblies, and alternative programs.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Position Requirements

• Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Post-secondary education in Deaf Education and American Sign Language, Educational Support or related field, and/or equivalent.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with classroom teachers, other support staff, and families.
• Criminal records check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less that 6 months old at time of hire

Compensation:  $28.46 per hour
