The Temiskaming Hospital, located approximately 150 kilometres north of North Bay, is nestled upon the traditional territory of the Algonquin, Anishinaabe and Cree people along the beautiful shores of Lake Temiskaming.

TH offers a wide range of acute and post-acute care including emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical, rehabilitation and complex/transitional care and palliative care services. In addition to the above, the Hospital offers laboratory, diagnostic imaging and mental health and addictions programs.

Current Recruitment Incentives:

  • Registered Nurses (Full-time, only) - $5,000 (3 years return of service)

Job Listings
The Cook / Porter is responsible for the preparation of food in accordance with sanitary regulations, preparation of sufficient quantities of food in time to meet meal schedules. The porter is responsible for the correct operation and cleaning of dishwashing machine, cleanliness of dish room, store room, janitor closet and floors.

Affiliation:  Union – CUPE 904
Rate of Pay:  $26.686 - $27.567 / hour (Cook) and $25.689 - $26.394 / hour (Porter)
Hours of Work:  Combination of shifts between 6:00 am and 6:30 pm (weekdays and weekends)

Mandatory Requirements:  

  • Secondary School Graduate
  • Safe Food Handler’s Certification required
  • Graduate, currently enrolled or willing to enroll in a Food Service Worker (6 modules) program or equivalent education; or at least 1 year cooking in a hospital or Nursing Home, or 2 years cooking in a non-healthcare institution, or 2 years cooking in a full service restaurant
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to read, write, speak and follow oral and written instructions in English
  • Must have an excellent work record including attendance
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team


Assets:

  • Ability to speak fluently in French and understand spoken French
  • Journeyman Cook qualification


Responsibilities:

  • Prepares all foods so that all deadlines are met and all food items will be prepared with a minimum holding time before service.
  • Cooks and garnishes food requiring skillful preparation, such as sauces, soups, vegetables and roasts.
  • Responsible for the quality of all assembled cold foods, cooked foods and baked desserts.
  • Performs in rotation all duties related to portering and dishwashing.
  • Works in the dishwashing room loading and unloading patient dishes in the dishwashing machine.
  • Receives tableware and trays from patient rooms and cleans dishes, glassware and silverware by machine.
  • Segregates and stacks tableware in dishwashing machine.
