New Liskeard Agricultural Research Station is seeking a fall Agronomy Assistant to assist the Crop Technician in harvest and processing field crop trial plots. Projects include corn, cereals, soybean and canola performance and variety characterization, pest management, and fertility response studies.
Specific activities will include: assisting with harvesting operations, quantitative data collection such as stand counts and biomass harvest, crop yields and quality analyses, collecting soil samples, crop dry matter determination, seed cleaning, and sample preparation (such as grinding). Training will be provided for these operations, so no prior experience is required.
We are looking for candidates with:
- have a background in, strong interest in or be studying in agricultural, environmental or other biological sciences
- have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25kg
- be able to work well independently and in a team environment
- have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- be able to follow directions and procedures precisely
- have sound judgment and critical thinking skills
- have the ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently with high accuracy
- have computer skills (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, Internet navigation)
- have a valid full G license

Contract Length: 1.5 month
Pay: $18.50-$24.00 per hour
Expected Hours: 16 – 32 per week

Steel-toed safety boots are required at the workplace and must be supplied by the successful applicant. Much of the work activity takes place outdoors. The agronomy assistant may be required to work longer hours during busy times of the season.
This position may have some flexibility for college and university students to work part-time.
